Property description

Millpool Carriage is an original railway carriage built by GWR in 1897, carefully restored to retain beautiful original features.

The wheelchair-accessible carriage has a light open-plan design including modern galley kitchen area with wheel-under worksurfaces, lounge area with single sofa bed and riser/recliner chair, and bedroom with either double bed or single adjustable bed.

The accessible wet-room has a step-free shower, wall-mounted shower seat, fixed grab-rails for WC, washbasin and shower, wheel-under washbasin, and emergency cord. A WC seat support frame and bathroom stool are also available to loan.

Millpool Carriage has double doors leading onto a private enclosed terrace with seating, chimenea, and stunning views over the surrounding Cornish countryside. The carriage is dog-friendly and guests can enjoy ten acres of private woodland just a few minutes walk away.

Millpool Carriage is a 31 foot Brake Third with 3 third class compartments and a guard’s compartment, and is full of original features such as picnic basket signs, cast iron luggage racks and brass match strikers.

St Germans is just a few miles from the popular fishing villages of Looe and Polperro, and the beautiful beaches of Whitsand Bay. Stayed in Millpool (accessible carriage, plenty of room to move the wheelchair about). Warm and cosy with a beautiful view. Plenty to do in the local area and with the frequent trains from the adjacent station it was easy to travel round Devon and Cornwall. Will definitely return.

We stayed in the Millpool carriage a cosy retreat with everything you need for a weekend away. Great village location with restaurant and pub in walking distance. Basic cooking facilities suited us. Would definitely recommend and likely to return.

We have just had the most enjoyable weekend staying in the Millpool converted railway carriage. It was such a unique experience and a thoroughly comfortable stay. If you are looking for something a little bit different this is a brilliant place to stay. The carriage was so comfortable with everything you could need. It was decorated beautifully and extremely clean and welcoming. There was even a welcome pack and fresh flowers which was a lovely additional touch. Thank you Dave and Lizzy, your hard work and commitment to the railway and your amazing carriages really shone through.
