The Accessible Holiday Escapes family – where it all started..
- Welcome to our ‘About Us’ page, thanks for popping over to find out more. We’re a family of 4 who love having holidays and days out and it was our unexpected journey as a family living with disability which led us into the world of accessible holidays….
- Our daughter is 14 and was diagnosed as a toddler with a rare metabolic disorder CDG Type 2, she also has mobility difficulties, learning disabilities, epilepsy and autism.
- We also have an 18 year old son, so holiday property searches for us became more and more of a challenge as we tried to find somewhere which was just right for the whole family (including our 4-legged friend) and also met our accessibility requirements.
- We often found that it seemed unnecessarily difficult to search for accessible family friendly properties and find the information we needed…..
What happened next…
- After becoming part of a large disability community, we slowly began to realise that it wasn’t just us who struggled to find somewhere that was right for the whole family. An idea slowly blossomed from there…
- We launched our specialised website in 2019 featuring 50+ accessibility search options to help narrow down search results to properties which have the specific access facilities or equipment you require
- As a family living with disability every day, we strongly feel that the only people who can make judgements on whether somewhere is accessible for them is the traveller or family themselves which is why all listings have detailed access information and a quick way for you to contact owners/managers directly
- The range of disabilities and accessibility requirements is huge, and accessibility means different things to different people – by providing a way to search for specific accessible features, we hope this provides a quick and easy way for you to find exactly the type of information you need.
As our team has grown we have built on our large portfolio of beautiful accessible escapes highlighting that wonderful accessible holiday options are out there, our hope is that Accessible Holiday Escapes can help you find them with ease.
