Property description
Wharf Cottages are situated in an idyllic waterside setting alongside the Llangollen Canal with the option to hire a wheelchair-accessible narrow boat for a day cruise.
Wharf Cottages compromises of a larger central cottage and two identical cottages either side, each with two bedrooms and an accessible wet-room. The main central cottage has a pretty day room with direct views over the canal and gardens, corner sofa, riser/recliner chair, and doors onto the private patio.
The main cottage has a spacious dining room with dining table for eight guests, two armchairs, cosy open fire, and wall-mounted TV.
The cottage also has a modern fully-equipped kitchen, utility room, and an accessible cloakroom WC with fixed grab-rails for WC and washbasin, drop-down grab-rail for WC, wall-hung washbasin, and emergency cord. An outside utility room contains laundry facilities.
The two cottages which provide sleeping accommodation each have a double bedroom with sofa bed, and a second bedroom with two double beds. All bedrooms have TVs and tea and coffee making facilities.
The accessible wet-rooms in each cottage have a step-free shower, fixed grab-rails for shower, wall-mounted shower chair, static removeable shower chair, drop-down grab-rail for WC, and wheel-under washbasin with fixed grab-rails.
Wharf Cottages have pretty waterside gardens leading onto a private wharf. The spacious gardens have outdoor dining furniture, brick built BBQ, large lawns, and wheelchair accessible bench with parasol where guests can enjoy watching the passing traffic on the Llangollen Canal. The cottages are dog-friendly.
Parking for three vehicles is situated close to the cottages within the cottage grounds, all on level ground and enclosed by gates. An overspill private car-park is situated adjacent to the property.
The Lyneal Trust also own ‘Shropshire Lady’, a 60 foot narrow boat specifically designed for day trips which can accommodate 12, including two wheelchair users. Guests can enjoy a day’s cruise with a trained crew and choose from two routes along the beautiful Llangollen Canal (additional hire cost).
The narrow boat has been designed with the assistance of physiotherapists and has a wheelchair ramp, wheelchair lift, WC, and galley kitchen for making hot drinks and snacks. The narrow boat has large windows to enable guests to enjoy the beautiful canal and countryside views, and heating for cooler days.
Lyneal Wharf is situated a few miles from the historic market town of Ellesmere in North Shropshire with pretty high street, historic attractions, shops, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, and Colemere Country Park.
Lyneal Wharf is just 15 miles from the medieval market town of Shrewsbury on the banks of the River Severn with cobbled streets and pretty Tudor buildings in the town centre. Guests can explore a wide range of attractions and activities around Shropshire including the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Ironbridge Gorge, Hawkstone Park Follies, Shrewsbury Castle, Park Hall Farm, and Chester Zoo.
Lovely cottages, very clean, totally accessible. Bathrooms in particular were very well thought through. Kitchen was very well equipped. Gardens were beautiful, totally accessible and flowers divine. There was good communication with volunteers. Thank you for providing such wonderful, well thought out premises.
The cottages are very well-equipped and were ideal for my mother-in-law's reduced mobility. All the Lyneal volunteers we met were very pleasant and helpful. The gardens are beautiful and the position by the canal was idyllic. We enjoyed our day trip on Shropshire Lady very much. We appreciated the excellent Wi-Fi, particularly as we had no mobile phone reception. This is probably the best holiday cottage we have stayed in for location and catering for my mother-in-law's needs.
On arrival we were greeted by a warm welcome. Cottages are very nice, comfy and clean. Lovely garden space to sit in, nice to watch the canal boats go past. Lots of nice places to visit and eat not too far away. We have enjoyed our stay here.
Another holiday spent with the Lyneal Trust proving once again how outstanding the charity, trustees and all volunteers are. A perfect day on the boat with Peter as our skipper, always a day to remember. Each year we get to see more investments made at Lyneal Wharf, this year was no exception. We look forward to our next visit here to enjoy the peace that Lyneal Wharf offers. We have had a lovely holiday, made many special memories and met some lovely people.
We have been very impressed and pleased by The Lyneal Trust as a whole. Everyone we have spoken to has been beyond helpful. We have loved staying here - it is so quiet and peaceful. There has been enough room for all the equipment we have to bring; the kitchen has everything we need, the beds are incredibly comfortable and it is just an amazing place to have a holiday!
