Major’s Lodge at Watatunga

We have had an amazing week staying in Major's Lodge . We were a family group ranging in age from 13-92 with complex medical and mobility requirements We chose this wheelchair-accessible accommodation because of the amazing opportunities the park provides. For those needing a quiet pace the sun room provided ever hanging views which included observing the oryx, deer, hares boxing and many types of birds including the very scary Dave! For the adventurous the electric buggies provided the ideal way of exploring the site multiple times each day. The wheelchair accessible trailer ensured all members of the family could join in. The bird hide is stunningly positioned overlooking the lake and was accessible to all. The team at Watatunga were fantastic. Communication was great and the inclusive ethos they hold was exactly what we required.

We had the most amazing time, it was so good to be able to go out whenever we wanted and see the animals at different times of the day – dusk was our favourite. Majors Lodge was lovely, and being able to hire in a hospital bed makes all the difference. We have never used a Tomato seat before but it was perfect for our daughter, she loved being sat up front with us and having such a good view of the animals. We did a seal watching trip with Seatours in Hunstanton, very easy with the wheelchair. Thank you again for the most amazing experience, it was a real privilege to be so close and get to know such amazing and rare animals. I’m sure we will be back.

We were a family of 6 reuniting at Major's Lodge at Watatunga after 2 years. The house was beautiful with 4 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, great spaces and deck. We were given an excellent introductory tour of the animals and birds on the Reserve by Julian the Wildlife Manager. We then had free access to two golf buggies (each held 4 people) and were free to explore the reserve whenever we wanted, from morning to evening. We loved the open grasslands where the antelope and deer roamed around, we saw water buffalos near the lake, spotted animals sheltering in the woods and fantastic birds. We also loved having access to the bird hide where we could look out over the reserve.

We had the most wonderful four night stay at Major's Lodge. The lodge itself was well equipped and very comfortable, with great views overlooking the reserve. It’s well equipped for disabled people too. We were able to enter the reserve in our golf buggy any time between 6am and 7pm (September). It was the most amazing experience and we spent many hours exploring and photographing the Deer and Birds. We only left the site once and that was for a trip to the supermarket. We loved every minute spent there and very sad to leave. Congratulations to the owners and staff who work there, for the wonderful work you do in conservation and saving the animals from extinction

If anyone is looking for a U.K. break, I would absolutely recommend Watatunga Wildlife Reserve, a beautiful wildlife reserve with a newly refurbished cottage sleeping 8 people on site. They've gone above and beyond to make everything wheelchair accessible without missing out on any of the experiences! Majors Lodge has 4 very spacious double bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, one of which is a wet room with rails and drop down shower seat. There is step-free access into the cottage and out onto the decking and garden, with widened door ways. They have a custom built trailer with a place to secure a wheelchair and with enough room for the rest of your party to travel with you! If you don't require a wheelchair, they have a fleet of golf buggies which travel in convoy for the tour, and you have access to these throughout your cottage stay to explore as and when you'd like!

This was our third week long holiday staying in Major’s Lodge and we’ve booked again for next year. It’s been amazing to see the animals and birds during different seasons of the year. The use of the golf buggies to explore the reserve are brilliant and the animals are quite used to them! Absolutely amazing experience for people of all ages. My son is disabled and he was still able to ride out in the golf buggy with us using a Special Tomato Seat provided by the Watatunga team.

An amazing wildlife reserve, set up so you feel like you have left the UK and dropped straight into Africa. A wonderful experience to see so many Water Buffalo, Antelope, Deer and large birds living naturally and unconfined. Everyday was exciting, going into the park and being so close to all of them. What was extra special for us was that everything was set up with accessibility as a priority and not an after-thought. In Major's Lodge there was flat access, shallow ramps, an excellent wet-room - and we were asked if we could think of any improvements they could make!

This was quite an exceptional experience which we would thoroughly recommend. The owners Anna and Ed were helpful and friendly and wanted to ensure we had everything we needed. Julian was immensely knowledgeable about the ethos of the reserve and the care of the animals. It was a memorable experience for us all.

We had a family re-union in the warm Major's Lodge in the recently icy Norfolk and it was amazing. To be able to see wildlife from the Lodge and to have a buggy to tour the conservation area at any time of day is a special experience to be remembered, especially after having an initial "free" guided tour as part of the rental. Happy to return at any time. The disabled facilities in Major's Lodge were also good for those with special needs.

This was the most amazing place to spend a weekend. We stayed in the newly renovated lodge and had full use of the safari buggies during our stay. The reserve was beautiful and it was incredible to get up close to so many animals. Thank you to the lovely owners for everything they did to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We didn’t want to leave and will definitely recommend to all our friends!
