Property description

Schoolhouse Fenwick is a pretty wheelchair-accessible cottage set in a peaceful location close to the Northumberland Coast.

Schoolhouse Fenwick has spacious ground-floor reception rooms including a south-facing living room with sofas, TV, cosy log-burning stove, and open countryside views.

The light and airy kitchen/dining room has a stylish kitchen, dining table with free-standing seating, and a door opening onto the private rear garden. The kitchen also leads round into a ‘snug’ alcove with sofa and views over the garden.

The ground-floor has a newly adapted accessible suite with electric profiling bed and ‘H’ track ceiling hoist coverage through to the en-suite wet-room (the profiling bed can also be set-up as a standard single bed). The suite has an additional exit route.

The spacious and modern accessible wet-room has hoist access into the step-free shower area with height-adjustable changing bench, and hoist access to the WC.

The wet-room has fixed grab-rails for the washbasin and WC, drop-down grab-rail for the WC, wheel-under washbasin with lever-style taps, and Rifton HTS wheeled shower chair. (The wet-room can be used by an independent wheelchair user but please note that the shower is located close to the folded up changing bench).

Schoolhouse Fenwick has three further bedrooms on the first floor including a double bedroom with en-suite shower room, a single bedroom with queen-size bed, and a twin bedroom. The large family bathroom has a large bath and separate shower (shower stool available).

The cottage has a private rear garden with level paved patio, outdoor seating, and ramped path to the lawns, herb garden and summerhouse. The cottage has private parking suitable for one Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle and one car.

Schoolhouse Fenwick is set in the village of Fenwick close to the coast and is within easy reach of Holy Island and the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The cottage is just ten miles from the historic town of Bamburgh with famous castle, stunning beach, and views to the Farne Islands. Guests can enjoy boat trips to the Farne Islands, and explore local historical attractions including Lindisfarne Castle and Alnwick Castle. Fenwick is also within driving distance of the Scottish Borders and the vibrant historic city of Edinburgh.

Reviews

We have been keen to have a holiday in Northumberland for years, but there has been no suitable accommodation with ceiling track hoist and profiling bed. This new adapted holiday home was perfect for our needs and the best we have stayed in. Very reasonably priced too. There was plenty of space to manoeuvre the wheelchair inside and it was lovely to sit out in the accessible garden area and summerhouse. We had a lovely time.

Beautifully presented spacious cottage with suitable disabled adaptations to the property allowing a person with profound disabilities to be able to enjoy a wonderful holiday in comfort.

The Schoolhouse is in a beautiful position overlooking fields and has a sunny back garden with a welcoming summer house. The property has a large kitchen with everything we needed. It was immaculately clean and homely making for a spacious and peaceful stay. It is central for all the great places to visit, we enjoyed Alnwick castle, Cragside, Holy Island and the stunning beach at Embleton. An excellent base to tour the beautiful coast of Northumbria.

We loved our stay at The Schoolhouse. The kitchen is huge and the large table was fabulous for playing board games on as well as eating meals together. It has lovely views over the garden. The whole house is cosy and tastefully furnished and the location is superb. It's in a quiet village but is close to many special places- Holy Island and Bamburgh are particularly fabulous.

What a beautiful place and setting! Just had a wonderful 2 weeks with my 20 year old daughter who has special needs and physical difficulties. The disability facilities there meant I was able to care for her stress free. It is a very spacious home with plenty of room for a family. The accessible garden is gorgeous and so peaceful. Wendy has put in so much thought and care to create somewhere that accommodates disability needs as well as retaining a lovely, homely space. There are so many stunning places to visit in the area.

This is a beautifully laid out property available for those with and without access needs. Our little group had THE best time here and enjoyed time in the garden too.

Thoroughly recommend Schoolhouse Fenwick for a holiday in Northumberland. Everyone's needs are different, but this ticked all of our boxes - full profiling bed, ceiling tracking hoist between bedroom and wet-room with shower and changing bed, plenty of space and a fantastic location.
