Property description
The Old Farmhouse is an award-winning accessible cottage in the Northumberland National Park, carefully renovated from an 18th century farmhouse.
The cottage has a spacious open-plan living/dining/kitchen space with large feature windows, spectacular panoramic views and double doors leading onto the decked terrace.
The living/dining area has comfortable seating, TV, cosy wood-burning stove, and dining table with free-standing seating. The accessible kitchen has a side-opening oven, wheel-under hob and wheel-under sink.
The cottage has two en-suite bedrooms including a twin/double bedroom, and a twin bedroom with electric adjustable beds, both with sliding doors leading into the wet-room. The spacious wet-room has a step-free shower, fixed grab-rails for shower and washbasin, drop-down grab-rails either side of WC, shower chair, and wheel-under washbasin.
Bed raisers, perching stools, and a self-propel wheeled shower chair are available on request. Carers are available locally and mobility equipment can be hired locally and delivered prior to arrival.
The Old Farmhouse enjoys a private decked terrace with stunning views, small grassed area, outdoor seating, and private parking for two cars. The house is dog-friendly.
The Old Farmhouse is one of two properties at Grindon Farm set in 600 acres of stunning countryside within Northumberland’s National Park. It is situated just one mile from the World Heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall and Roman forts. ‘Grindon Cartshed’ sleeps six guests in three bedrooms.
The pretty village of Haydon Bridge is just 4 miles away with shops, cafes, restaurants and popular attractions. It is 11 miles to the traditional market town of Hexham with winding streets set around a 12th century abbey, restaurants, independent shops, markets, leisure centre and arts centre.
A short distance away is the historic ex-Roman Garrison town of Corbridge with boutique shopping, restaurants, cafes and picturesque riverside walks; and the cities of Newcastle and Durham are within easy driving distance.

The place is fantastic, the views are spectacular. The disability access is literally second to none and I would say to anyone if you have not been here yet, you are missing an absolute gem. The people are friendly and our children loved the holiday. Brilliant.
Wonderful cottage, gorgeous countryside and extremely friendly and hospitable hosts. We had a fantastic week. Highlights were Nenthead mines, Blanchland, Corbridge and Keilder Forest, cycling from Haltwhistle to Slaggyford and Lindisfarne - not to mention the Wall. We would recommend this cottage to anyone.
Another wonderful week of peace and tranquillity; glorious dawn and sunsets and awe-inspiring stars-a jewelled sky at night. I'll have to return again!!
Spacious stylish cottage. Loved it. Recommend walking Allen Banks plus of course Hadrian's Wall.

We've stayed at The Old Farmhouse and had a lovely week. The hosts greeted us so well and the Sill is nearby and very accessible with a Changing Places toilet.
