The Old Stables at Nordham Cottages

The Old Stables is a 5* luxury property specifically designed for accessibility and set in pretty landscaped gardens.

The cottage has a hallway leading from the front door into the large sunny kitchen/diner with a wheel-under sink, hob, and preparation area, wheelchair-height/side-opening oven, and wheelchair-height microwave with pull-out shelves below. The dining table has free-standing seating with arms. Bi-fold doors open onto the courtyard sensory garden.

The Old Stables kitchen leads through to the west-facing sitting room with two riser/recliner chairs, wall-mounted TV, and bi-fold doors onto the pretty courtyard garden.

On one side of the sitting room is a spacious accessible bedroom with twin/super-king bed, emergency cord, TV, and an accessible en-suite wet-room.

The luxury en-suite wet-room has a step-free shower, emergency cord, fixed grab-rails for shower, washbasin and alongside WC, and additional grab-rails which can be added if necessary. The wheel-under washbasin has wheelchair height mirrors, and the WC has a high push-button flush.

Double doors from the accessible bedroom give direct access to the stonewalled area with planters, a sunny spot to enjoy the afternoon sunshine.

Mobility aids including a shower stool, shower chair, wheeled shower chair, and raised WC seat are available for use in the wet-room, and additional aids are also available on request including a wheelchair, crutches, over bed/over chair wheeled table, large magnifying glass, a loop system and a personal amplifier.

To the side of the large TV in the sitting room is a door leading to a second hallway with twin/super-king bedroom and en-suite bathroom with shower over bath (with grab-rails). The small hallway gives access to the garden and parking area.

The second bedroom can be closed off as a self-contained space for an accompanying carer if required, and with a bedroom at either end of the property is also well suited to two couples or families with children.

The Old Stables has black sockets and switches for colour contrast against cream walls for those with visual impairment, and all switches and plugs are at wheelchair height.

The cottage has a sunny south-facing sensory garden with water feature, resin-gravel for easy travel, area for sunshade, and outdoor dining table with free-standing seating with arms. Guests can enjoy views of the National Garden Scheme garden and woodland beyond. The cottage has private parking and a covered drive-in garage.

The cottage is dog-friendly and accepts one well-behaved dog.

The Old Stables is situated in the pretty village of Nordham, North Cave in the Yorkshire Wolds and has a village shop and pub within 5-10 minutes walk.

The cottage is perfectly located for discovering East Yorkshire and is only 20 minutes from the bustling market town of Beverley and 20 minutes from Hull, City of Culture in 2017. The historic City of York is within easy driving distance at 22 miles from the property.

Guests can enjoy exploring Bridlington, Hornsea, Scarborough, and Whitby on the East Yorkshire Coast.

Local attractions and activities include Williams Den Adventure Play, Drewtons Farm Shop and Restaurant, and The Deep in Hull. A little further afield is the Jorvik Viking Centre in York, the North York Moors national Park, the Royal Armories in Leeds and Flamingo Land Theme Park.

Bird and wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy the bird life in the garden, or at the North Cave Wetlands with accessible bird hide. Bempton Cliffs is renowned for it’s spectacular birdlife and has wheelchair-accessible viewpoints.
