meet the Escape owners…cwm connell coastal cottages
Can you tell us a little about you and the name of your escape?
We are Alex and Emma Mitchell and our escape is called Yr Ffald which means The Farm in Welsh and is at Cwm Connell Coastal Cottages on the Pembrokeshire Coast.
Can you tell us a little more about your escape?
We are in an idyllic coastal setting with sea views across Cardigan Bay from gardens, accessible bridle paths and our four acre paddock.
Yr Ffald is a traditional Welsh stone cottage with a living room/kitchen, two bedrooms, a wheelchair-accessible wet room and a wood-burning stove.
Parking is right next to the cottage and we have a fenced terrace with outdoor chairs and tables and lovely evening sun.
Yr Ffald sleeps 4 in a super king bedroom and twin bedroom with cabin beds.
We are very dog friendly and welcome up to 3 dogs in the cottage.
What inspired you to ensure your escape was accessible?
We have 7 cottages at Cwm Connell and wanted to make Yr Ffald accessible so that my best friend and her husband who has MS could stay. She said how hard it is to find a beautiful cottage to stay in, so often they have to book Premier Inn or somewhere functional looking.
She helped me with all the measurements, wide doorways, wet-room, slope and ramps and requirements.
What is unique about your escape?
It is in the most stunning part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park with dog-friendly accessible beaches Poppit Sands and Newport Sands a short drive along the coast road.
As you drive the last 2 miles to your cottages, along a farm track, you can see stunning sea views across Cardigan Bay to Dinas Head and Strumble Head Lighthouse.
The cottage is very pretty and the accessible features are tasteful rather than purely functional.
We were voted the most dog friendly cottages in Wales by DogFriendly Magazine in 2024 and it is the perfect accessible place to visit with your dog. It is so peaceful and rural and really feels as if you have discovered a hide away.
Do you have a favourite local accessible café, restaurant or pub?
Yes we have a wonderful local award-winning business called CRWST . We put their sourdough loaves and local speciality ‘Honey Butter’ in our welcome packs and guests nearly always want a jar to take home to family and friends.
Crwst have a café on Poppit Sands and serve the best coffee, doughnuts and Portuguese tarts. The cafe is accessible via ramp and stores beach wheelchairs which visitors can book using the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park website.
Crwst also have a large wheelchair-accessible cafe with accessible WC in Cardigan, 15 minutes drive away, which serves delicious brunches and lunches.
Can you recommend any local accessible attractions or activities?
Poppit Sands and Newport Sands are long sandy beaches with accessible beach wheelchairs to hire.
Cardigan town makes a lovely day out with accessible shops and cafes and a covered market with lots of local crafts, foods and produce. Local gardens Dyffant Fernant, Aberglasney and Llanerchaeron are wonderful.
The best part about welcoming guests to your accessible escape?
Alex and I love to welcome our guests and always make sure we are here to help with your arrival and anything you need during your stay.
The coast is so stunning and the cottages so pretty that we love it when guests arrive and see the place and know that they will have a lovely relaxed holiday here.
