Meet the Escape Owners at 66 Cala Llonga!

  • Meet the owners

We’re Peter and Hilary, and we acquired this villa in 2017 for our family to enjoy but particularly our special children Tom and Alice. Alice has Cystic Fibrosis and Tom has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair, so finding safe and accessible accommodation to meet Tom’s needs has always been challenging. For us 66 Cala Llonga is perfect.

66 Cala Llonga is a large 3 bedroomed privately owned villa situated in a quiet residential area just 10 minutes by car from the capital Mahon on the beautiful island of Menorca.

  • Can you tell us a little more about your escape?

The villa has 2 ground-floor double-sized bedrooms (one leading directly to the pool and terrace), 2 downstairs wet-rooms, and an upstairs double en-suite bedroom. The ground floor and outside spaces are completely level, and there is a large private pool with full-length ramp, handrail and pool wheelchair.  (Cala Llonga is hilly so a car or use of a taxi is recommended).

  • What inspired you to ensure your escape was accessible?

The villa was originally built by a Spaniard whose son has cerebral palsy so it was specifically designed to cater for a wheelchair user with wider doors, wet-rooms, ramped pool. This meant the villa can also meet the needs of our family and future guests with accessibility needs.

  • What is unique about your escape?

Menorca is unique. Its only about 2 hours from the UK. Its small, unspoilt and very safe for families.

  • Do you have a favourite local accessible café, restaurant or pub?

There are so many good cafes, bars and restaurants it’s difficult to name any particular one. Just strolling along the wonderful port you’ll have no problem finding something to your taste. There is however a local hotel, bar and restaurant just 2 minutes away that’s open in the summer months.

  • Can you recommend any local accessible attractions or activities?

Again there are so many local attractions, and guide books are available on our website and in the villa.

  • The best part about welcoming guests to your accessible escape?

The best part about welcoming guests is the feedback we receive and many of those are on our website. We only rent out to individuals or families that have a less able member in their party so facilities like NO steps, wide doorways, wet-rooms and easy access into the covered ramped pool just enhances the experience.
