meet the escape owners – Grand get-togethers

Can you tell us a little about you and the name of your escapes?

We’re Molly and Joan, a mother and daughter team who provide group holiday accommodation on and around our family farm in Yorkshire. We have refurbished and renovated buildings and houses to provide luxury group accommodation.

Grand Get-Togethers is our brand name and we have four properties which sit underneath this. The name is a play on words and Yorkshire dialect. Not only are our properties ‘reet grand’, as we would say in Yorkshire, but they also cater for the group accommodation market and are large and luxurious.

Bogg Hall Barn, our most accessible property, is converted chalk and bricks barns at a farm we purchased called Bogg Hall Farm. We didn’t want to lose the quirky name which is where the name Bogg Hall Barn came from. The Yard is our second accessible property and is in the nearby village of Sherburn.

Can you tell us a little more about your escapes?

Bogg Hall Barn is located in the Vale of Pickering between the market town of Malton and the seaside resort of Scarborough. Situated in the village of Ganton, just below the renowned golf course, Bogg Hall is ideally located for exploring both the coast and inland towns and attractions.

Sleeping 22 guests in 10 en-suite bedrooms, Bogg Hall has been renovated with not only large groups in mind but also accessibility. The barn has 8 ground-floor bedrooms (including an accessible bedroom with king-size bed, single electric profiling bed and en-suite wet-room), mobile hoist, and accessible kitchen.

We have tried to be as sustainable as possible and have supported local artists and craftsmen. Bogg Hall boasts huge open-plan living areas with a home bar and log-burner as well as an outdoor hot-tub and huge indoor hydrotherapy pool.

The Yard in Sherburn sleeps 16 guests in 6 en-suite bedrooms and has ramp access, level interior, spacious living areas, three large ground-floor bedrooms with walk-in showers, and a further ground-floor bedroom with walk-in shower, grab-rail, and shower chair). Guests can enjoy a large swim spa.

What inspired you to ensure your escapes were accessible?

We have been providing group accommodation for 9 years now, when we purchased Bogg Hall Barn we knew there was demand for large properties with accessible features, especially for multi-generational groups, which is why we took the decision to make it as accessible as possible right from the start of the project when it was just a tumble down barn.

We believe everyone should be able to spend time with their loved ones making lifelong memories in comfort and style.

What is unique about your escapes?

The size of our properties is most definitely our most unique feature. Not many properties have have en-suite bedrooms catering for 16-22 guests in luxury and comfort. We also pride ourselves on our leisure facilities such as hot-tubs, games rooms and swim spas.

Do you have a favourite local accessible café, restaurant or pub?

The Farrier at Cayton is an award winning pub with fabulous food and a lovely atmosphere. It has been refurbished to extremely high standards and can be booked for large group celebrations. It is very popular so we always recommend booking in advance!

Can you recommend any local accessible attractions or activities?

Castle Howard is a fantastic place to visit for all ages and accessibility has been considered throughout. We particularly like to visit the Christmas event which sees the house transformed into a story book full of the most incredible decorations. There are quieter times to visit and for us as a family this is the ideal time to take Grandad in a hired wheelchair. The staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful.

What is the best part about welcoming guests to your accessible escape?

Seeing families and large groups get together making memories that will last a lifetime is so rewarding. We love to share our pocket of Yorkshire which we are so lucky to call home.
